Overview

The Master of Journalism - Documentary Filmmaking Specialisation (MJ-DFS) programme is a comprehensive professional programme designed to prepare graduates for successful careers across local, regional, and international markets. Our curriculum emphasizes practical skills in documentary filmmaking while also highlighting the importance of ethics, legal considerations, historical context, and journalistic principles of storytelling. Students will develop both journalistic and artistic abilities to explore a wide range of topics—from politics and society to personal narratives—crafting compelling content and artistic expression.

The programme equips students with the essential tools to navigate the evolving landscape of narrative and visual storytelling across international TV, streaming platforms, festivals, and cinema markets. We encourage innovative artistry, empowering students to create captivating works that resonate with global audiences. Covering all forms of documentary filmmaking, the curriculum ensures students are well-prepared to apply these techniques effectively and convey their intended themes.

Disclaimer: The Master of Journalism – Documentary Filmmaking Specialisation (MJ‑DFS) is currently undergoing a programme revamp and renaming process, which is subject to the University’s final approval. The proposed changes include the renaming of the programme to the Master of Arts in Documentary Filmmaking (MADF), the extension of the programme duration from 1 year to 1.5 years, and corresponding revisions to the curriculum, graduation requirements, and tuition fees. Prospective applicants should note that the programme duration, required graduation credits, tuition fees, and degree title are subject to change pending the University’s approval.
