Overview

As the first graduate degree course in Hong Kong dedicated to the training of news professionals, the Master of Journalism [MJ] programme focuses on the core ingredients of a sound education in journalism. Students received training in the best practices in print, digital and multimedia story-telling, as well as media law, standards and ethics. Students may also pursue their interest in business & financial reporting, cultural journalism, global affairs, data journalism and generative A.I. in media applications. The programme, taught in English, seeks to prepare students for the professional world, and to become standard bearers in a fast-changing media environment shaped increasingly by commercial pressures and revolutionary technological developments. The programme is also suitable for mid-career journalists interested in professional enhancement or a teaching career, as well as for non-news professionals seeking a media-related career.

Entrance Requirements

2. A score of 95 or above (for tests taken before January 21, 2026) or an overall score of 5.0 or above on the 1-6 band scale (for tests taken from January 21, 2026 onwards) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)  or a minimum overall band of 7.0 with no subtest lower than 6.0 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required for applicants seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong in which the language of instruction and/or examination is not English.
