The Master of Digital Urban Management (MDUM) is a one-year full-time programme co-organised by the Department of Urban Planning and Design and Urban Systems Institute of the University of Hong Kong. It is designed to address the increasing utilizations of digital technologies and data-driven approaches in urban management and planning.
Emerging technologies bring both positive and negative impacts on cities. Digital Urban Management is an interdisciplinary field that sits in the intersection among digital technology and urban management. It plays an important role in the future urban governance, which offers an integrated perspective to tackle urban issues.
MDUM provides students with exposure to state-of-the-art urban technologies, including but not limited to urban sensing, digital twin, sustainable technology, financial technology, gerontechnology and spatial computing, along with their applications and implications for contemporary cities. The programme encourages interdisciplinary collaboration for innovative problem-solving, offers hands-on experience with digital tools, and fosters a culture of research and innovation in Digital Urban Management. It also prepares graduates for careers in sectors where digital technology and data-driven decision-making skills are in demand.

Curriculum:
The curriculum encompasses 69 credits, including 36 credits of six core courses, 18 credits of three elective courses, and a 15-credit dissertation or capstone project. Students can choose three electives to specialize in either of the two streams: Urban Policy and Management or Urban Technology and Analytics.
The applicant:
(a) Shall comply with the General Regulations
(b) Shall hold a Bachelor’s degree of this University in a relevant subject or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
(c) For a candidate who is seeking admission based on a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to higher degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b); and
(d) Shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.
