Overview

The Master of Accounting Programme at the HKU Business School combines a rigorous academic core with tailored practical skills and knowledge. It is accredited by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Australia, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA).

Students on this programme benefit from our professional partnerships with both the ACCA, whereby we incorporate its Strategic Professional level exams into our curriculum, and KPMG, which exposes our students to the company's analytics technologies and real-life business experience.

Our comprehensive curriculum structure covers accounting, finance, management and business analytics, and explores theories that explicate the important roles of accounting in economic decisions. Through exploring data analytics, students will learn how to take insights and information and convert this into executable actions.

Students need to complete a total of twelve courses (single concentration) or fourteen courses (double concentration), they can choose to concentrate in one or two of the learning streams: Accounting Analytics and Big Data, Financial Reporting and Valuation, and ESG and Strategic Management, according to their interests and career aspirations. Students may choose not to concentrate in a stream provided that they complete the eight core courses (inclusive of any one of the capstone courses) and four electives. Up to two elective courses may be taken from other taught postgraduate programmes offered by the School.

Entrance Requirements

1. A recognized Bachelor's degree or equivalent;

2. Statements from two referees; and

3. A TOEFL/IELTS* score if you are not from an English teaching university.

*A minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) in TOEFL, or a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in IELTS is required.

Candidates with a good GMAT/GRE score or possessing a business Bachelor's degree or have accounting-related work experience will be favorably considered.
