Overview

"As healthcare rapidly evolves, the role of professionals in pharmacy is becoming more diverse. With the development of complex new therapies such as advanced therapy products, it is foreseen that novel transdisciplinary roles will emerge, requiring skilled candidates with concept of medication knowledge, healthcare system, drug development and more.

The Master of Advanced Pharmacy programme aims to equip our students for essential roles in medication management and to support the evolving needs of the healthcare system and patients. This programme provides postgraduate training that students can customize to their professional needs in pharmacy practice, which may be in hospital, community, the pharmaceutical industry, or innovative transdisciplinary roles.

The Master of Advanced Pharmacy programme will have 3 structured streams: Clinical Practice, Community Health, and Pharmaceutical Medicine. Candidates who wish to individualize their exposure to the types of course and do not satisfy the requirements of any of the 3 streams shall be regarded as Generalists."

Entrance Requirements

"To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the degree of Master of Advanced Pharmacy, candidates shall:

a. comply with the General Regulations; and

b. comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and

c. be holding a Bachelor's degree or above

i. in pharmacy (for Clinical Practice or Community Health streams)

ii. in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, pharmacology, physiology, physical science, biochemistry,

biotechnology, chemistry, biomedical/biological sciences, genetics, medicine, nursing or other relevant discipline (for Pharmaceutical Medicine stream or Generalist) from this University, or from another university, or comparable institution accepted for this purpose; and

d. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required."

LKS Faculty of Medicine

The University of Hong Kong's Medical Faculty is the oldest faculty in tertiary-education in Hong Kong. Its origins go back to 1887, when the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese was founded by the London Missionary Society. Besides training doctors and nurses, the Faculty has always been at the forefront of medical research and development of new clinical services for the benefit of humankind.

The Medical Faculty is the largest in the University, hosting a community of over 5,000 students and professoriate staff. It is one of the most technologically advanced medical institutions in the region.

The Faculty is committed to serving the lifelong-learning needs of the community. Its departments have dedicated efforts in developing high-quality taught postgraduate programmes, and have on-going dialogues with target groups including clinicians, nurses, healthcare professionals and biomedical graduates to explore their interests and needs for professional developments.
