The Master of Arts in East Asian Studies, examines the political, economic, cultural, and social experience of East Asia, with a focus on Korea and Japan. It focuses on East Asian international relations, cultural studies, and intercultural communication, while also placing East Asia in a global context. Students will be taught by leading scholars in the field. Students are expected to have already achieved an advanced level of study in the Japanese, Korean, or Russian language. This programme prepares students for further study at the PhD level in a variety of Arts field or advancement in the professional job market.
English and East Asian target languages
A good Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Korean, East Asian Studies or related disciplines, including, but not limited to Anthropology, Cultural Studies, History, Linguistics, Literature, Media Studies, Politics, and Sociology; and a high degree of language abilities already achieved in Japanese, Korean, or Russian.
For Japanese: level N2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
For Korean: level 4 or 5 in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)
For Russian: level II or III in the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL)
